Low Pressure Fitness and Abdominal Massage for Pelvic Floor Care is a 3 day continuing education course on learning the application of the Low Pressure Fitness (LPF) training system and abdominal massage for pelvic health. A novel exercise therapy approach based on the hypopressive technique, self- abdominal massage care and breathing re-education is presented by Dr. Tamara Rial.
The Low Pressure Fitness training system and self abdominal massage are two excellent tools which can serve as an adjunctive therapy to manage a wide variety of pelvic and core health conditions. This course is intended for women’s health practitioners and will provide all the tools for abdomino-pelvic assessment and pelvic health treatment through the lens of intra-abdominal pressure management and pelvic viscera organ positioning.
During this course, participants will learn and practice the technical principals of hypopressive exercise, learn the level one Low Pressure Fitness sequence; learn and receive abdominal, pelvic, spinal and diaphragmatic release techniques, including self-care protocols; practice and learn a variety of depressive breathing techniques; and leave with a solid understanding of specific adaptations and clinical cases to apply Abdominal Massage and Low Pressure Fitness.
Herman & Wallace presents the first US edition of Low Pressure Fitness and Abdominal Massage for Pelvic Floor Care with Low Pressure Fitness founder Dr. Tamara Rial. Throughout their expertise in the area, they will guide and provide you with the necessary keys and knowledge to implement the hypopressive and visveral positioning techniques to any patient with pelvic health or abdominal issues. The students will learn passive positioning of the pelvic diaphragm and abdomino-pelvic organs, which is most efficiently accomplished through a daily self-abdominal massage. This massage greatly improves blood flow and lymphatic circulation to the gut and pelvic organs leading to improved digestion, organ detoxification and hormonal balance. It will also help to release any myofascial and ligamentous restrictions that are leading to mal-positioning of the organs or breathing dysfunctions. The passive organ positioning is followed by the active technique that will train the deep core muscles to keep the organs in their optimal position. The students will also learn active positioning of the pelvic and abdominal organs through a core neuro-reeducation technique, known as Low Pressure Fitness. The Low Pressure Fitness methodology involves a seamless progression of postures and poses that cause a reduction in pressure in the abdomen and triggers an automatic response from the core muscles- transverse, pelvic floor, multifidus, diaphragm, and glutes. Low Pressure Fitness and trains the diaphragm and pelvic floor muscles to keep the pressure in the abdomen low, elevate the pelvic organs, decompress the spine, and reflexively strengthens the deep core muscles leading to significant improvements in pelvic organ and pelvic muscle function.
What to bring:
A Yoga mat or towel. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing that one would wear to a yoga or fitness class.
Audience:
This continuing education seminar is targeted to physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapist assistants, registered nurses, nurse midwives, and other rehabilitation professionals. Content is not intended for use outside the scope of the learner's license or regulation. Physical therapy continuing education courses should not be taken by individuals who are not licensed or otherwise regulated, except, as they are involved in a specific plan of care.
Special Considerations:
As this course involves practical sessions, participants who have special needs, medical conditions or are pregnant can fully participate in the course but the practical session will be adapted and modified. Therefore, they have to inform about their condition previously and a medical clearance to participate in the practical session will be required.
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Identify how pelvic floor anatomy, biomechanics and pathophysiology relate to practical and scientific evidence for hypopressive training through LPF.
2. Describe the hypopressive concept, its postural foundations and the goals of LPF.
3. Describe how organ position relates to posture, breathing and pelvic floor function.
4. Assess the abdomen for visceral and soft tissue tension and implement the appropriate manual therapy techniques to resolve dysfunctions.
5. List the neurophysiologic benefits of abdominal massage and how that relates to pelvic floor muscle function.
6. Teach abdominal massage for self care, and make the appropriate adaptations based on the physical presentation and symptomology of the patient.
7. Demonstrate correct procedure, professional skills and technical implementation of LPF exercises, transitions and progressions.
8. Demonstrate and teach diaphragmatic and abdominal myofascial release exercises and techniques.
9. Demonstrate competency in performance and teaching of the level 1 LPF sequence to patients in a one-on-one setting.
10. Describe LPF exercise adaptations for diastasis recti and pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.
11. Learn the abdominal vacuum, abdominal tone and hyperpresure assessment scale.

Tamara bring amazing perspective without trying to attack/downplay other things. She is very generous with the information and resources.
- Kathleen Engelhardt, DPT, E-RYT - Buffalo, NY
I would love to take level two!
- Jenna Cornell DPT, OCS, ATC - Richlandtown, PA
This has been one of the best courses that provided enough time to complete the practice of techniques. Tamara has been a very interactive and helpful instructor and provided multiple ideas of how to implement them into clinic setting: both group and individual RXs.
- Angelique Kaple- PT - Columbus, OH
Tamara was very thorough with education, research, and proper positioning/wing for the poses. Amazing information – very well taught and easy to apply!
- Rachel Wymer, PT, DPT - Chagrin Falls, OH
I feel like this will change my life (as a person with chronic abdominal pain) and now I treat patients.
- Jenna Cornell DPT, OCS, ATC - Richlandtown, PA
This was an awesome class that provided a small class to learn these techniques. Tamara was a great and dynamic instructor. I feel this material and techniques will be a great asset for women’s health patients.
- Angelique Kaple- PT - Columbus, OH
I learned new and valuable information from this class, I applies to my PT. Population: Oncology, Lymphedema Pelvic Floor, Orthopedic, NEURO PT. I think all PT! Thank you Tamara! Looking forward to Level2.
- Mary Jane Ogoy-Ferrer, PT - Sterling Heights, MI
Tamara is a wonderful teacher, modest, full of knowledge. I feel very lucky to have taken her course and can’t wait to implement into practice! (And take level2!).
- Katelyn Kunkle, DPT - Huntington, NY
Tamara told us on the first day that this course would change out lives in that we would be living the hypopressive life. I am in awe of all that hypopressives can help with, and that is motivation enough to change my lifestyle and to help change the lives of my patients. I’m so updated to have this new powerful tool to help with patients.
- Jessica Jenkins, PT, DPT, CLT - Cleveland Heights, OH
Fantastic Job! She has such an engaging presentation, passion of the subject and knowledge. Very good conversation and communication. This is one of the most applicable and needed courses that I have attended that would be beneficial for all patients/athletes. Slides at times were out of order and become difficult to follow. More video of dysfunction would be helpful, as there were not many examples in class.
- Shelly Tyler, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT - Owensboro, KY
It was amazing to see the postural and breathing changes amongst the class in just 3 days. I was amazed at the deep muscle contraction of the stabilizing muscle during the postures which appeared so easy! The lift of the pelvic floor was amazing and profound with the vacuum technique. Very interesting in level 2+3. A different city would be a nice and more safety and easier access. Interesting in TA opportunity. This is the missing link in my practice.
- Erin N Lindberg, OTR/L - Detroit Lakes, MN
Tamara was an excellent instructor in her style, knowledge and teaching skills. The content of the course was clinically relevant and will change my practice of all patients’ not just patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. I am grateful for the experience and opportunity to take this course and to learn this wonderful program Thank You.
- Tracy McCormick, PT, DPT, MS - Bridgeton, NJ
This is the best continuing education course. I have taken. I feel that I have the research to deferd my practice, the clinical and academic knowledge. I need to practice. If you offer level 2. I’m there!
