I graduated from University of Texas Medical Branch with a master’s in physical therapy in 2002. I came upon pelvic floor therapy in my first job at Houston’s’ Methodist hospital. As a rookie therapist, I was asked to go down to the Labor and delivery and work with pregnant patients on bedrest, since no one else in the department was interested. I realized very quickly that my skills were lacking and there was little room for errors and experimentation. I began looking in to specialization in this area and there was no looking back after that. I have enjoyed every minute of pelvic floor work. I have since then acquired board certification through APTA and was one the item writers and reviewers for pelvic rehab certification exam for Hermann and Wallace. I have been fortunate to present several papers at APTA’s combined sections meeting and I have recently started writing a blog on female sexual dysfunction for H&W, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I teach pregnancy and post-partum fitness and educational classes in the community, as well as represent pelvic floor therapy on a panel with experts ranging from colorectal surgeons, urogynecologist and sex therapists.
I take a holistic approach to pelvic floor and orthopedic dysfunctions. I treat the source of the pain and not just the symptoms. Over the years of practicing, teaching, and learning pelvic floor therapy, I have developed my own unique approach to pelvic pain that is entrenched in the theories of motor control and tapping in to central nervous system. I treat with passion and intent, and my goal is to provide each patient comprehensive rehab of the pelvic floor and spine.
