Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is a disorder defined by discomfort of the vulva. It is not necessarily caused by infection, inflammation, or a neurological disorder; it is simply vulvar pain and may result from a variety of causes, such as a high concentration urinary oxylates, genetic factors, hormones, neuropathic changes, or any combination of these factors. The pain caused by vulvodynia is described as a burning sensation or stinging pain that affects the vulva and sometimes the labia and entrance of the vagina. Once diagnosed, vulvodynia is classified as either generalized or localized, and provoked, not provoked, or mixed.
