Upon completion of this continuing education seminar, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the diagnosis, treatment and sequelae of treatment of gynecological cancers.
2. Describe the role of the therapist as a front line member of the oncological healthcare team.
3. Perform manual therapy techniques to enhance the function of the lymphatic system.
4. Identify the early signs and symptoms of lymphedema; be able to advise the patient on prevention, self -management and when to seek specialized treatment.
5. Design an appropriate exercise program for the gyn oncology survivor, inclusive of pelvic floor dysfunction/ pelvic pain, and with respect to the systemic effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
6. Identify the challenges to a cancer survivor’s sexual function and be able to offer treatment strategies for same.
7. Recognize some of the early signs and symptoms of gynecologic cancers in our role as promoters of pelvic health, and guide our patients towards seeking early intervention.
8. Describe the long-term effects of cancer-related treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.
