Pelvic Floor Level 2A

CC TABS - Description

As physical therapists treating pelvic floor dysfunction and PT patients in general, it is not uncommon to encounter difficult patients.  This two-day course on the integrative approach of the "Conscious Clinician" was developed for the therapist who wants to effectively manage the difficult patients that come into a physical therapy practice. The class looks at four aspects that make patient situations difficult: multiple systems involvement, behavioral blockages, the physicality of emotion, and the model of self-care/self neglect.

At this course, participates will learn techniques and exercises that will help develop a broader understanding of how different systems of the body influence the pelvic floor, so the therapist can tailor treatments more specifically for the best results. Sometimes, it is behavior that interferes with progress, and this provides simple and easily applied tools that will fit into treatment and help the therapist be more successful.

Beyond physiology, this course will focus on the concept of the physicality of emotion, based on recent developments in understanding how emotion interplays with pain. As physical therapists, we have a unique position to help patients to understand and manage the physical impact of emotions that so often gets overlooked when helping people manage their pain. Underlying all of this is a look at our own perceptions as therapists and how they influence our treatment and decision-making in therapy.
