Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- List and describe several meditation techniques and which techniques are effective with different patient types
- Describe basic concepts of the neuroscience of pain and the effects of meditation on the brain
- Discuss the contributing role of trauma and stress to persistent pain
- Discuss the evidence for the cognitive and emotional modulation of pain
- Explain pain and stress-induced hyperalgesia to patients in simple language
- Define helpful vs. dysfunctional patterns of care
- Practice techniques to center and stay grounded at work with detached compassion
- Describe the steps for setting up a shared responsibility model of patient care
- Instruct a patient in the basic qualities of meditation
