Alyssa is a 2012 graduate from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT. Her journey into pelvic health started 7 years into her career when the need was exponential; she jumped at the opportunity to learn something new! Alyssa started the pelvic health program in 2018 with her manager at a local community hospital where she first started as a rehab aide while in in school at the University of Hartford in 2007. Alyssa began working as an acute care and outpatient ortho PT in 2014 and in 2018, Alyssa began the journey toward treating the pelvic health population, which is 100% of her caseload today. Alyssa took all four core pelvic floor courses through Herman & Wallace between May 2018 and October 2019, quickly developing a love for the field. She is very passionate about treating all diagnoses, but some of her favorite include postpartum muscle weakness, pelvic pain, specifically complex pelvic pain, endometriosis, and post-hysterectomy, as well as the pregnant population in order to prepare for labor & birth.
Alyssa began as a teaching assistant for Herman & Wallace in January 2021 when there was a huge need for teaching assistants since shifting to satellite lab sites. Alyssa took on the role of the head TA learning the "ins & outs" of being a TA and guiding the participants in their pelvic health journey. Alyssa has taken countless courses with Herman & Wallace including the Pregnancy & Postpartum Series, Male Pelvic Health, Pharmacology for the Pelvic Rehab Clinician, Eating Disorders and Pelvic Health, Bowel Pathology & Function, Coccydynia and Sl Joint Dysfunction. She has a few courses on her radar to take in the upcoming year (Visceral Mobilization series and Nutrition are just a few)!
In her free time, Alyssa spends time with her boyfriend, family & friends doing various outdoor activities, relaxing as much as she can with her free time, and trying all gluten free food she can find!
Alyssa currently TAs for 5+ courses each year, focusing on the core 4, plus Male Pelvic Health. She is so excited to join the group of exceptional Lead Teaching Assistants. Being a part of the Lead Teaching Assistant team allows me to advance my skills while shaping the future of pelvic health.
